Pressure systems have played a vital role in industry since the advent of steam power. Today, they are integral to nearly every industrial sector—whether in everyday items like refrigeration systems, workshop air compressors and LPG vessels or within complex industrial processes. Pressure systems are now an essential component of modern industry and you won’t have to look hard to find one somewhere in your organisation!
Many types of pressure equipment (if not all) carry inherent hazards. A sudden failure or rupture can have consequences for anyone nearby. Sometimes, these consequences can be catastrophic and there have been many fatalities over the years that have been directly attributable to failure of a pressure system.
That’s why working safely with pressure equipment is crucial. Through proper risk assessment and the implementation of effective safety measures, the likelihood of accidents can be significantly reduced.
For these reasons, I’ve been delighted to make use of my skills and experience to deliver the Pressure Systems Awareness training course on behalf of the GB Health and Safety Executive (the HSE).
This informative, one day course is designed to raise awareness of the hazards associated with pressure systems and to explain the relevant UK legal and regulatory framework. Additionally, delegates are given valuable insights through real-life pressure system failure case studies that offer a powerful understanding of what can go wrong and why.
I’ve delivered the course both in-person and ‘live online’ and it’s been good to see the amount of positive engagement I’ve had and also to meet a range of people ranging from ‘new starters’ to seasoned industry professionals – including maintenance, engineering and health and safety personnel.
All have a different ‘day to day’ experience of pressure systems and I’m sure that the course has benefited them in their roles.
