Meet Kevin McKeown

Engineering Consulting

Having spent the majority of his career in the downstream gas industry working for the largest multi-site LPG supplier in the UK, Kevin’s experience has been wide and varied. He is a respected Technical Authority for various disciplines including piping systems, engineering management of change, hazardous area electrical requirements and atmospheric storage systems (including diesel tanks and methanol containment).

 

Kevin is a graduate of the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST) and has an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Chartered Member of the UK’s Institution of Mechanical Engineers and an Affiliate Member of IOSH.

Integrity Management and Process Safety

An experienced Project Engineer and Project Manager, Kevin has been responsible for developing and implementing installation and inspection programmes for sites throughout the UK and overseas. From advisory services to technical authoring and training, Kevin works with organisations to implement solutions that ensure compliance to safety regulations and industry standards.

 

Training and Tutoring

Kevin is a Tutor for EMMUA’s Mechanical Integrity Practitioner (MIPC) Course responsible for delivering a module on the regulatory framework for mechanical asset integrity.

 

He has provided in-house training on the topics of piping integrity and engineering management of change.

Technical Authoring

Engineering specification projects have included authoring for:

  • Process piping - LPG, team/condensate and firewater (ASME B31.3.)
  • Piping integrity and inspection (EEMUA 231 and API570.)
  • Hazardous area electrical requirements (BS EN 6079 Pt 14, 17 et al.)
  • Methanol storage systems

Asset Integrity

Kevin has developed and implemented a number of Asset Integrity schemes, providing compliance legislation such as COMAH, PSSR and PUWER and associated industry guidance and standards (EEMUA 231 et al)

These have included:

  • Process piping  assets.
  • Civil and structural assets

Working Groups

Representing Liquid Gas UK, Kevin contributed to the CDOIF document providing guidance on ‘The Use of External Contractors in the Management of Ageing Plant’. He is also currently chairing a working group responsible for guidance on Rectangular, Above Ground Fuel Storage Tanks.

Speaking and Events

Recent presentations have included speeches at the EEMUA Storage Tank Seminar in Rotterdam, and the 2024 StockExpo in Rotterdam.

Key Projects

Responsible for project managing many installations and refurbishments, Kevin served as Project Manager for the construction of a Marine Import Terminal in the Philippines responsible for all stages from business plan to construction and commissioning.
